Why in the world would I
call a blog "Bones?" Here is why...the times we are living in, the
things that are happening, the freedoms that are being threatened, people, ALL
people can feel how WRONG this is, and I believe, that this is felt on a BONE
level, it's inescapable. I am dedicating this blog to what we are feeling,
experiencing and struggling with down to our BONES.
Yesterday, I was having
a conversation with some of my co-workers and I was expressing dismay that I
had discovered that two people working very closely together, knew nothing
about each other's lives, this seemed so improbable to me yet, I saw many faces
at the table that seemed to think this was totally normal under the guise of
being professional and then it dawned on me this is precisely our
problem.
This is why we can read
the news and separate ourselves from people that we are reading
about. They don't live close-by, they don't have the same color of skin, they don't pray to the same God as we do, they don't love the people that we
love, they weren't born in same country as
we were. This is how people reconcile their thoughts, their beliefs their
lives.
When I am standing in
front of someone I want to know what's important to you, what gets you out in
the world everyday, who do you love, what do you fight for, what brings you
peace? When I can understand this about someone, what makes us different falls
away, because these truths will connect us in a way, that is HUMAN and
profound. This is what ties us to each other, I will never make the mistake of
defining someone with such a narrow lens. This will allow us to fight for one another regardless of how different we "seem." If we have a snowballs chance in
hell, we have to commit to this one simple task. This my friends, is the kind of truth you can
feel in your BONES.
